Sammy and Elton’s train trip

I received these two handwirtten letters (translated).

Uncle Sammy (Second from Left)

My name is Sam Jacobs, I’m 70 years old and truely love trains. I love watching trains as they pass.  It was a dream come true the day I rode on the train. Since very young I have been watching trains daily. I’m always willing to help.  I was very excited when Magriet (Left on Photo) our Safety Train Rail Patrol Leader informed me that I received a trip on the Steam Train because I work as a Volunteer Safety Train Rail Patroller. It was my first time on a train. I waived at everybody in Sir Lowry’s Pass as we passd through the Village, I even waived my Western Province Rugby Flag.

Thank to the train people (Ceres Railway Company) it is my  honor to assist you on your sae journay through Sir Lowry’s Pass

Elton Davids (Third from left)

My name is Elton Davids, I’m 46 years old.

I was born in Sir Lowry’s Pass Village.  It was a very present experience for both my 15 year old son, Elrico Benjamin, and myself. We were very excited to be able to go on the Steam Train on the 18th of February.  All the years I only say the train go pass me. Now it was my turn to go on the train to Elgin. It was wonderful to expierence the beauty of the nature and surroundings on the trip.  Hopefully I’ll have another oppurtunity like this with my daugther Elnika.

It is a honor to be a Volunteer Safety Train Rail Patroller to ensure that others can have a safe trip like me.
