Louisa Lourens was born in Vereeniging, just south of Johannesburg. From a very young age, she had the opportunity with her parents and church to participate in charity projects. As a young girl, she and her mother loved to visit a school for disabled pupils, where she became part of the class activities. She joined a Social Development and Awareness Group at university, helping the less fortunate. She moved to Stellenbosch and kept doing part-time charity work in Sir Lowry’s Pass until she became full-time part of the NPC.
