On Wednesday, 10 December, we received a call from Rise Against Hunger Africa’s Cape Town office with the wonderful news that, as part of their Holiday Hunger Campaign, they would be donating nutritious Food Socks. Rise Against Hunger Africa is dedicated to ending child hunger by providing nutritious meals, with a particular focus on children aged 1–6 attending Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres, while also supporting education, community development, and crisis relief through volunteer-packed meals and strong corporate partnerships.
Inter-Sped (Gauteng) (Pty) Ltd sponsored a Sir Lowry’s Pass community member to assist with couriering the Food Socks to the village. The Food Socks were distributed throughout the village to the different Soup Mothers, who then ensured an even distribution across the entire community.
Another event where Sir Lowry’s Pass Creative Development was involved in distributing some of these Food Socks was during the Sir Lowry’s Pass Village Constructive Solutions Group’s (SLPVCSG) Day of Reconciliation Collective Effort. Read more about it here.
This initiative and the donation from Rise Against Hunger truly were a Christmas blessing for our community. A next round of distributing Food Socks is scheduled for early 2026.
